Wood River Day Use Area

The Wood River Day Use Area is a serene recreation site on the Wood River. It is located 20 minutes northwest of Chiloquin, Oregon. It is surrounded by aspen and cottonwood trees and in the autumn they turn a brilliant yellow, allowing for wonderful photography opportunities.

In addition to beautiful scenery, visitors to this area may also see predatory birds, such as bald eagles, ospreys and Red-tailed hawks lurking above the various trout in the river. Though viewing wildlife may not be guaranteed, the steady and peaceful flow of the river is assured.

Amenities at this day use area include picnic tables, BBQ pedestals and vault toilet. There is also canoe or kayak access to the Wood River, biking opportunities, a fishing area, and panoramic view of the Cascades and the mountains around Crater Lake.

Accessible facilities include parking and the boardwalk.

These slow, clear and cold spring waters hold large numbers of healthy invasive brown and brook trout, as well as native redband trout and a growing population of native bull trout. The Wood River is ideal for dry fly fishing with its endless cut banks and grassy turns — especially late in the summer.
