| | The Friends of the Klamath County Library invite the public to a special geothermal program featuring Vickie Liskey, Wednesday March 17th at 1:30 p.m. Ms. Liskey will open the Friends quarterly general membership meeting with a presentation of her family¡¯s story about developing land and using hot water wells.
Vickie¡¯s family began developing their 1500 acre farm south of Klamath Falls in the 1930¡¯s and were perplexed that the wells they dug only produced 195¢ª water. Over the years the family found ways to use the water for farming but never to its full potential.
With the growth in popularity of alternative energy and advances in geothermal technology, the Liskeys are now using their unusual land feature to their advantage. They lease property to eco-friendly entrepreneurs to develop projects in tropical and food source fish, spider mite predators for crop pest control, organic produce, biodiesel production and a geothermal power plant for clean energy development.
Vickie Liskey operates a seasonal retail nursery in Klamath Falls and has served on the board of the Oregon Energy Trust. The Liskey family legacy was featured in a recent issue of ¡°Yields¡± a publication of Northwest Farm Credit Services.
The public is invited to hear about the Liskey farm projects in-depth and learn how green technologies are being developed in Klamath Falls. All are invited to stay after the presentation for the Friends of the Library meeting and learn about their purpose and ongoing projects for the library.

| | On March, 18th 2010 at 8:00pm the Contemporary Arts Kitchen will host a
punk rock concert. Booked for the event are Waiting for Vizzini, Zero
Compromise, Idle Threats and The Hollowbodys.
WAITING FOR VIZZINI is a three-piece from southern Oregon whose saga has been 28 years in the making. While sharing a playpen in 1981, Jesse (vocals, guitars, mood swings) and Casey (bass, vocals, comic relief) devised their plan to start a band and rock
the world. They then spent the next 16 years pretty much unaware of each other until they both started playing bass guitar in high school, with Casey playing in the high school band and Jesse starting the most well-known-unknown garage band of all time
with another friend.
For additional information visit them at
http://www.myspace.com/waitingforvizzinimusic.
ZERO COMPROMISE was formed sometime in July 2008 in Klamath Falls, OR. Kurtis and James met in a parking lot outside of work after Kurtis noticed a guitar and amp in the back of James' car. So they hung out, jacking jaw about music and waiting for Jessi to
get off work. Later Kurtis was invited to a party at the apartment; afterwards they decided to form a band. For additional information visit them at http://www.myspace.com/zero-
compromise.
IDLE THREATS formed in 2000 as a four piece (Mike, Kyle, Chris, Jake) we started out with a few originals, while covering some Partisans and Blanks 77 too. Kicked out Mike, tried a couple of other people singing, didn’t work so Kyle moved to bass/vocals. Played
quite a few shows around the area, recorded a couple demos over the course of 3 years, had a couple other people randomly in and out of the band, then called it quits. I think it
was in 2004 we started just playing shows where friends booking shows didn’t have an opening band. We’ve been playing steady ever since.
For additional information visit them at
http://www.myspace.com/idlethreats.
HOLLOWBODYS are supporting their first release available on Mental Records. They are Silas Shand, (guitar and vocals); Justin Miller (drums); and Kyle Cregan on (bass and
vocals). The debut release of The Hollowbodys “Heartache & Revolution” is available on the iTunes Music.
The Hollowbodys also just released two brand new tracks, “Can’t Stop Drinking” and "I Sold My Soul To Rock & Roll” on the Crass Roots North West Vol. 1. A unique compilation of distinct American roots music blending traditional folk music and contemporary punk, rock and blues generated in and around the Cascade region of the great American west. You can visit them at http://www.myspace.com/thehollowbodys.

| | A major new exhibit opening March 20, 2010, at the Klamath County Museum will highlight the Klamath Basin’s diverse forests and the role they’ve played in the region’s history. The exhibit, titled “Forests for Everyone – Klamath’s Living Legacy,” is the largest new attraction offered by the Klamath County Museum in many years.
Thirteen specific topics are addressed in the exhibit, starting with how forests looked in the age before European settlement, and the role of fire in the woods. A wetland diorama offers a close-up view of fish habitat and a beaver lodge. A crawl-through log will give youngsters a chance to discover animals that can be found in downed trees, and interactive exhibits will allow visitors to hear sounds of the forest or see how modern mapping techniques help foresters manage timberlands.
Large replicated trees create the atmosphere of a real forest, serving as the backdrop for numerous taxidermied animals, including a wood rat, beaver, coyote, night heron, goshawk, marmot, black bear, cougar and elk. To celebrate the new exhibit, the museum will offer half-price admission through spring break. Discount rates of $2.50 for adults and $2 for students and seniors will be in effect March 20-28. It will be held in the parking lot next to the Gallery in the Chiloquin Community Center at 140 So. 1st St, Chiloquin, Oregon. This is a change from our regular date in August, to the day of the entire town yard sale, making a trip to Chiloquin well worth it for yard sale fans. | | Ever visit a gallery and wonder how an artist creates his work or have questions you'd love to ask if only you could talk to the creator of that wonderful piece of art? You will have your chance on Saturday, August 28th when Two Rivers Gallery presents artists and their artwork at our Second Annual Meet the Artists fundraiser. The event will be held in the Chiloquin Community Center, 140 So. 1st St., from 1 pm 'til 4 pm. In attendance this year will be a Bead Artist (Diane Eldridge), Woodworker (Wolf Hodgkinson), Origami Expert (Barbara
Turner) and award winning Quilt Artist (Joanne Bathe). Returning this year is Gan Ainm, a French Canadian band from Ashland who kept the feet tapping at last year's event. There will also be a silent auction of artwork donated by Two Rivers Gallery members. And once again a tasty variety of refreshments will be served. You won't want to miss this fun and informative afternoon. And, your attendance also supports our gallery and many local artists.
