FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Multimedia art exhibit, The Traveling New Orleans Show opens February 17th, with a reception and showing in Klamath Falls, Oregon. The Traveling New Orleans Show explores what it means to miss New Orleans for 4 weeks at the Ross Ragland Theater, 218 North 7th Street Klamath Falls, Oregon. A reception with Cajun food will begin at 6:30 P.M. Twenty-nine pieces by former New Orleanian and Hurricane Katrina survivor, Christy Soto, explore topics such as New Orleans culture, music, festivals, traditions, food, and the largest natural disaster on U.S. soil, Hurricane Katrina. “New Orleans is a town rich in celebration, history, crime, and chaos,” explains Soto. “New Orleans receives millions of visitors throughout the year for Mardi Gras, the Jazz and Heritage Festival, and the French Quarter Festival, yet it is still referred to as a third-world country of the United States.” The city’s laissez-faire grandiosity and unique landscape has made it a popular theme for literature, plays, and movies. “New Orleans is referred to in song lyrics more than any other city in the world. The city is a muse.” Half art exhibit and half museum exhibit, The Traveling New Orleans show is great for anyone who has visited or is interested in the city and its diverse gumbo, “—a gumbo that was only temporarily embittered by Hurricane Katrina,” says Soto. A series of seven photos entitled “The Saddest Party on Earth” are images of the first Mardi Gras post-Katrina, when most of its inhabitants were still without electricity and water, some even still evacuated from unlivable homes. The costumes of this series show the deeply engrained New Orleans sense of humor, such as “Water Bottle Girl,” “Caution Tape Man” and “Airlift Rescue.” Read of Soto’s evacuation from the storm 12 hours before landfall in the piece, “Belated Evacuation.” Not only does the exhibit feature poetry and literature from Soto, it also features the works of other New Orleans artists and writers. A large bead exhibit entitled, “Mamma’s Best Throws” shows the creativity of design behind parade “throws,” or beads and souvenirs that are thrown from Mardi Gras floats. A free-standing oversized multi-media piece called “three doors” makes a larger statement about the scenes that were prevalent after the hurricane. There are also images taken only weeks after Hurricane Katrina when Soto returned to the city for the first time. “In post-Katrina New Orleans, it was commonplace to see refrigerators in the street with phrases written all over them, to see the red rescue marks on doors and refuse everywhere,” explains Soto. The exhibit does not capture the putrid smell that permeated the city of New Orleans for months after the storm. “It smelled like, not just death, but the death of a city.” Soto refers to some of the oversized pieces as “Factoid Art”—large works that provide New Orleans facts such as “NOLA Terminology,” “New Orleans Festivals,” and “Summary of a Port City” are just a few fact-based art-pieces. Multimedia artist and graphic designer, Christy Soto spent 10 years in New Orleans, Louisiana as an artist, performer, and screenwriter. She returned to her hometown of Klamath Falls, Oregon in 2007 and started the advertising agency Optilux Design. The following year she founded the artist collective The Creativity Collective that would launch the contemporary arts center, The Contemporary Arts Kitchen. Her works have been published in numerous magazines and chap books, and her plays have been produced in Oregon and Louisiana, including the notable Le Chat Noir in New Orleans. Today, her photography appears most often in the websites she designs with graphic design partner, Mike Stier. She currently is at work on a book of travel humor, Happily Ever Aftermath, the ill-conceived travels of an unwed mother. She has a 16-year-old son and is step-mother to two girls, Julianna and Gwynneth. She, along with Stier, operates Optilux Design (www.optiluxdesign.com). Christy is the CEO of The Contemporary Arts Kitchen at 809 Main Street, Klamath Falls, OR 97601 (www.creativitycollective.com).

The Friends of the Klamath County Library invite the public to a special geothermal program featuring Vickie Liskey, Wednesday March 17th at 1:30 p.m. Ms. Liskey will open the Friends quarterly general membership meeting with a presentation of her family¡¯s story about developing land and using hot water wells. Vickie¡¯s family began developing their 1500 acre farm south of Klamath Falls in the 1930¡¯s and were perplexed that the wells they dug only produced 195¢ª water. Over the years the family found ways to use the water for farming but never to its full potential. With the growth in popularity of alternative energy and advances in geothermal technology, the Liskeys are now using their unusual land feature to their advantage. They lease property to eco-friendly entrepreneurs to develop projects in tropical and food source fish, spider mite predators for crop pest control, organic produce, biodiesel production and a geothermal power plant for clean energy development. Vickie Liskey operates a seasonal retail nursery in Klamath Falls and has served on the board of the Oregon Energy Trust. The Liskey family legacy was featured in a recent issue of ¡°Yields¡± a publication of Northwest Farm Credit Services. The public is invited to hear about the Liskey farm projects in-depth and learn how green technologies are being developed in Klamath Falls. All are invited to stay after the presentation for the Friends of the Library meeting and learn about their purpose and ongoing projects for the library. For more information, please call the library at 541-882-8894 or visit the library website: www.klamathlibrary.plinkit.org

On March, 18th 2010 at 8:00pm the Contemporary Arts Kitchen will host a punk rock concert. Booked for the event are Waiting for Vizzini, Zero Compromise, Idle Threats and The Hollowbodys. WAITING FOR VIZZINI is a three-piece from southern Oregon whose saga has been 28 years in the making. While sharing a playpen in 1981, Jesse (vocals, guitars, mood swings) and Casey (bass, vocals, comic relief) devised their plan to start a band and rock the world. They then spent the next 16 years pretty much unaware of each other until they both started playing bass guitar in high school, with Casey playing in the high school band and Jesse starting the most well-known-unknown garage band of all time with another friend. For additional information visit them at http://www.myspace.com/waitingforvizzinimusic. ZERO COMPROMISE was formed sometime in July 2008 in Klamath Falls, OR. Kurtis and James met in a parking lot outside of work after Kurtis noticed a guitar and amp in the back of James' car. So they hung out, jacking jaw about music and waiting for Jessi to get off work. Later Kurtis was invited to a party at the apartment; afterwards they decided to form a band. For additional information visit them at http://www.myspace.com/zero- compromise. IDLE THREATS formed in 2000 as a four piece (Mike, Kyle, Chris, Jake) we started out with a few originals, while covering some Partisans and Blanks 77 too. Kicked out Mike, tried a couple of other people singing, didn’t work so Kyle moved to bass/vocals. Played quite a few shows around the area, recorded a couple demos over the course of 3 years, had a couple other people randomly in and out of the band, then called it quits. I think it was in 2004 we started just playing shows where friends booking shows didn’t have an opening band. We’ve been playing steady ever since. For additional information visit them at http://www.myspace.com/idlethreats. HOLLOWBODYS are supporting their first release available on Mental Records. They are Silas Shand, (guitar and vocals); Justin Miller (drums); and Kyle Cregan on (bass and vocals). The debut release of The Hollowbodys “Heartache & Revolution” is available on the iTunes Music. The Hollowbodys also just released two brand new tracks, “Can’t Stop Drinking” and "I Sold My Soul To Rock & Roll” on the Crass Roots North West Vol. 1. A unique compilation of distinct American roots music blending traditional folk music and contemporary punk, rock and blues generated in and around the Cascade region of the great American west. You can visit them at http://www.myspace.com/thehollowbodys.

It has been over 20 years since Paul Simon made his initial trip to South Africa and discovered Joseph Shabalala and the other members of Ladysmith Black Mambazo in a Johannesburg recording studio. Simon was captivated by the stirring sound of bass, alto and tenor harmonies and he incorporated these traditional sounds into his Graceland album, causing an international sensation. The album won Simon and Ladysmith recognition as leaders in world music. Mambazo represents the traditional culture of South Africa and is regarded as the country's cultural emissary at home and around the world. In 1993, at Nelson Mandela's request, Ladysmith Black Mambazo performed at his Nobel Peace Prize award ceremony in Oslo, Norway, and again at President Mandela's inauguration in May of 1994. The group is a national treasure of the new South Africa in part because it embodies the musical and cultural traditions formerly suppressed in South Africa. Monday evening at 7:30 PM. In the 1970s, the decade of platform shoes, glitter and disco, one musical group reached the pinnacle of stardom, becoming the voice of a generation, and a small country's second largest export. This is not that band . . . this is Bjorn Again: The Ultimate ABBA Experience. Bjorn Again recreates the ABBA phenomenon both visually and through reflection of the ABBA sound, dance steps and humor. Performing over 4,000 concerts in more than 60 countries over 20 years, Bjorn Again has toured for longer and performed for more people than ABBA, playing all the classic hits you love, including Mamma Mia, Dancing Queen, Take a Chance on Me, S.O.S, The Name of the Game, Waterloo and many more. The show, which is no longer seen as just a tribute band, has been hailed as the most popular and successful act of its kind in the world and has been endorsed by original ABBA members Agnetha Faltskog, Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus. Saturday evening at 7:30 PM. Tickets are $38.50, $33.50 and $26.50. For more information or to purchase tickets, call 541.884.LIVE or visit the website at the provided link.

Start with four very gifted singer-songwriters, add 3/4 cup married life, some great four-part harmony, one piano, four guitars and a rockin' purple bass fiddle and you've got an estrogen-fueled new show that delightfully celebrates the best of babes, boys and botox. Always evolving, the Four Bitchin' Babes usher in a new era with their new musical revue, Diva Nation, a show that is one part comedy road show and another part a poignant celebration of hearth and home. With sorority sister chemistry, the show presents a series of entertaining songs and stories that showcase the group's original views and unbridled comedic commentary on the joys and dilemmas of everyday life. Friday evening at 7:30 PM. Tickets are $32.50, $26.50 and $16.50. For more information or to purchase tickets, call 541.884.LIVE or visit the website at the provided link.

It will be held in the parking lot next to the Gallery in the Chiloquin Community Center at 140 So. 1st St, Chiloquin, Oregon. Ever visit a gallery and wonder how an artist creates his work or have questions you'd love to ask if only you could talk to the creator of that wonderful piece of art? You will have your chance on Saturday, August 28th when Two Rivers Gallery presents artists and their artwork at our Second Annual Meet the Artists fundraiser. The event will be held in the Chiloquin Community Center, 140 So. 1st St., from 1 pm 'til 4 pm. In attendance this year will be a Bead Artist (Diane Eldridge), Woodworker (Wolf Hodgkinson), Origami Expert (Barbara Turner) and award winning Quilt Artist (Joanne Bathe). Returning this year is Gan Ainm, a French Canadian band from Ashland who kept the feet tapping at last year's event. There will also be a silent auction of artwork donated by Two Rivers Gallery members. And once again a tasty variety of refreshments will be served. You won't want to miss this fun and informative afternoon. And, your attendance also supports our gallery and many local artists. Two Rivers Gallery is a non-profit gallery established to give local artists a venue for their art, and is run entirely by volunteers. Tickets are $5 per person.
